設計專業的經營環境，一直是我入行以來的夢想。

我一直不主張，設計作業及工程發包管理混在一塊，然而在臺灣，並不允許設計專業單獨存在。只經營設計這一塊，恐怕只能使營運持平，比較糟的狀況甚至是得勒緊褲帶過日子，更慘不忍賭的是，流程一旦進入工程階段，只要業主跟你多要個櫃子、多ㄠ幾個插座等等的現象發生，那一瞬間設計師其實是個工程承包廠商，設計專業在這個時候，已經不是業主要的了，然而還是得在皆大歡喜的前提之下，含著眼淚、昧著設計良心的完成使命。

不為什麼，只是為了餬口。悲觀嗎？也許是的。誇張嗎？就是如此。

隨著科技越來越發達，資訊的取得也相較以往容易許多，消費者已知道什麼是好的東西，什麼是品質，在忙碌的生活當中，生活應有的品質逐漸被重視，然而消費者的荷包，並沒有隨者眼界的拓展而肥厚，微利時代的帽子，就這麼順理成章的戴下來。

只有專業再專業才得以有個尚稱合理的生存空間。

然而在臺灣，還是不允許設計專業單獨存在。為了生存，工程還是得承包，就算消費者往往不理性的消費。叫一碗40塊台幣的陽春麵，湯碗的比例花色要求之講究，筷子末端要來個雕龍刻鳳，碗裏裝的最好有幾塊牛肉，不要以為這樣就算了，還得在桌子上鋪一塊絲質的桌巾…………，這個現象，已經不是變態，而是一種常態，為了顧全及考慮工程面的種種因素，設計專業一再的妥協、萎縮。

可笑的是，明明點的是一碗陽春麵，卻不在乎麵條的口感和湯頭。這其實不能全怪消費者，設計師自己長期下來的操作習慣及心態，也是一個不得不自我檢討的現象。

只有專業再專業才得以有個尚稱合理的生存空間。

也就因為如此，在臺灣既然設計與工程已經糾結不清，設計專業跟工程技術更應該統一服務，但是分部管理，甚至是如同國外，設計專業與工程技術兩者的經營面或是管理面分立，兩者的專業累積與精進，以及建立完整的流程機制，才有效率與良率可言，設計生命才得以正面的延續，避免環境及操作的謬誤而遭到扼殺、淘汰。

To create a professional atmosphere is my dream after entering the realm of design.

I always disagree to combine design together with construction; however, in Taiwan, designing is not allowed to exist independently.  If only managing the design field, the best you can do is keep the operation balanced; the worse situation may be not getting benefit at all.  While the procedure goes to the construction stage, this condition, it will be horrible if the proprietor wants one more cabinet or several sockets.  At that moment, the designer becomes a contractor, which means a professional design is no longer what the proprietor wants.  However, you have no choice but try to please the proprietor – you may need to betray your responsibility of design to complete this job.

The reason to do so is to make ends meet.  Am I a pessimist? Possibly.  Did I exaggerate the situation? Not at all.

As technology develops, obtaining information becomes easier for everyone.  Thus, consumers can distinguish good stuff and quality.  People gradually pay more attention to high quality of life in a busy society nowadays.  However, their wallets do not get filled as their vision does.  It is a low-benefit era.

Having an extremely professional attitude is the only way to survive.

In Taiwan, the design profession is not allowed to exist independently.  To survive, you have to take any jobs even if the consumers are usually irrational about spending money.  It is like ordering a NT40 noodle soup, but also asking for a fashionable bowl, carved chopsticks, beef in the soup, silk table cloth, and so on.  This kind of phenomenon becomes normal nowadays.  For the sake of construction or other reasons, designers compromise again and again.

It is ironic to order a bowl of noodle soup, but not care about the soup and texture of noodles.  It is not fully the consumers’ fault; designers also need to introspect about their attitude and mindset.

Having an extremely professional attitude is the only way to survive.

According to that which is mentioned above, design and construction are mixed and united as one department, but I think they need to be managed separately.  We can refer to the methods western countries used to operate or manage them separately, try to improve their professional attitude, and establish a complete system.  By doing this, designers can work with efficiency, and prolong their career; otherwise, they may be trapped or eliminated in the “abnormal” environment.

To create a professional atmosphere is my dream after entering the realm of design.
