請開窗

回溯古典建築,那種權位顯赫式的對稱,神聖化的絕對垂直與水平, 柱列極度武斷的壓抑著呼吸, 就連開窗,也充滿著冷漠、封閉,壓抑了室內外互動的熱情。
在我們生活的現代化都市裡,看看那些驕傲的現代建築物, 仍能感受到那種開歷史倒車,教條式的因襲,惰性及麻木。

為什麼開窗非得對稱不可?非得規矩的呆在立面上罰站?它應該有更自由的輪廓,更自由的立面,更有活力的扮演。 為什麼開窗方式非得橫拉或推射不可?它應該可以朝著不同的角度方向,以利於捕捉對應方向的任何元素, 陽光、街道、天空、植物.........,引入室內。 為什麼它非得和立面平行而立不可?它應該可以內縮或外凸,創造介於室內外的灰階,而非生硬的界定彼此。

我並不認為需要在每一扇窗大費周章的設計它。 但除了依採光方式及空氣流通的原始需求滿足外, 是否非將古典教條視為開窗方式的最高指導原則? 期待台灣的偉大建築設計師,從開窗方式的再檢討,為我們創造更現代化的生活環境。

Bruno Zevi, an architecture critic, says that one could free himself from blind worship through breaking the entire institutionalized patterns.
Looking back at the classical architecture, the authoritative symmetry, absolute vertical and horizontal designs that are regarded as divine, and an absolute repression of the columns that they cannot even breathe, even if the window is open, the passion and interaction are repressed by indifference and closed-mindedness.
Look at those arrogant buildings in the modern city, we can still feel the dogma of the ancient era, conformism, inertia, and insensitivity.

Why do windows have to be symmetric and neatly placed on the surface of the wall? Why can’t they have a free contour, a free position, and a vivid presentation?  Why do they have to be slid in the tracks or pushed out?  They should be allowed to face various angles and directions to respond to elements such as the sunlight, streets, sky, plants, and so on. They can also bring those fabulous scenes into the room. Instead of being horizontal to the wall, they can also move inwards or bulge out.  They could function as a blend for interior and exterior worlds.

I am not saying that people should spend tremendous energy on designing windows.  My idea is to reconsider the traditional way of design and come up with an inspiring design under the policy of practical demands such as ambient lighting and ventilation.  I am expecting that someday the great designers in Taiwan can create a modern and inspiring living environment through reconsidering the window design.

"Open your window, feel the wind and change your mood, let the dream flow in the future…"
